Sometimes the biggest secrets are hidden in plain sight...

Hello, I'm Kay Herrmann, and welcome to my universe. Here you'll be introduced to a side of our world that we thought only existed in fairy tales and the myths of old dusty books on the verge of becoming obsolete. But Pitch DeAngelo and his brother Chamuel are very real, just like the danger that ties them to Emma Boyd.

If you like what you find here, please feel free to read and review, but don't take anything without linking back to this page, Pitch and I have ways of finding out.

Enjoy!

It’s been decided. On October 20th, 2010, we will wear purple in honor of the 6 gay boys who committed suicide in recent weeks/months due to homophobic abuse in their homes at at their schools. Purple represents Spirit on the LGBTQ flag and that’s exactly what we’d like all of you to have with you: spirit. Please know that times will get better and that you will meet people who will love you and respect you for who you are, no matter your sexuality. Please wear purple on October 20th. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbors and schools.

Somewhere during the latest chapter, I hit the 40,000 word mark. Why is this such a big deal? Depending on who you ask, the minimum word count for a novel is anywhere from 40,000 to 60,000. Generally accepted is 50,000, although for first time novelists most editors and publishers like to see about 75,000. If I were to take the easy way, I'd have a novel on my hands right now. But(!) when I started to get serious about this venture, I set my own personal goal for 50,000 words. That would mean I'm 80% of the way there, which is HELLA exciting. Will I make it to the preferred 75,000 words? Look at it from my point of view.

When I had this idea, I wasn't ever sure if I'd finish. I'd tried to write something meaningful several times before, but it just didn't feel right to me. Eventually I'd lose interest and just toss the whole thing. Even if I'd pushed myself to continue, I would have felt so uncomfortable with the result that I never would have sought to get it published. That's one piece of advice I can give fellow aspiring writers. When you feel like it's working, it's definitely working. Don't force yourself. Writer's block is a normal affliction, and it'll pass eventually. Don't try to push yourself through it and force the words to come, because 99% of the time you won't be happy with the result, and trust me, your readers will notice. Don't put so much pressure on you to deliver a result, when your mind is ready, the words will just flow without you even having to think about it. Do you see what I'm saying?

Pardon me, I tend to go off on tangents.

As I was saying, about 13 months ago an idea popped into my head, and I had no idea where it would lead me, but I followed. I could envision Pitch, tall, light and surly, but with a heart of gold. Chamuel, desperate for a bond with his older brother, and of course endearingly goofy. And of course Emma, who is not only struggling with her own coming of age story, but battling inner demons while wondering if there's a greater purpose for her in life than just being the source of Pitch's eyerolling.

Fast forward a year and some change. I'm still writing. My characters have developed their own personalities, individual identities. The plot has taken many twists and turns, catching even me by surprise at times. And my insignificant little idea has undergone a metamorphosis of sorts, transforming from just a dream into a full-fledged...thing. Will their story be finished in 10,000 words? I highly doubt it, every day I sit and go "what if...". I plan to explore each "what if" to the best of my ability, and I hope to share the results with you.

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to read this, who has given me feedback, encouraged me to keep going, and stopped me from becoming disheartened. You know who you are. Once this chapter of the story is wrapped up, I'm already planning something to show my gratitude. Until then, sit back, enjoy the ride, because it's not over yet.

Love,
Kay

Oh yeah, I realize that sometime people like to document the progress of the whole writing process. For those of you who were wondering what word 40,000 was, it was "to". Not very epic, I know. But hey, who knows what 50,000 will be? ;)

My good friend, the honorable Rev. Prof. Dr. HRM S. M. Elliott Aw.D. (That's a doctor of Awesome) was giving me a little feedback on the story so far this morning, and she unknowingly explicated my work for me. In a most flattering twist, she actually ended up comparing it to one of my favorite songs.

Alrighty everyone, if you follow me on twitter you've probably seen me retweet my good friend jenkinsjf. She's a very talented writer with amazing stories to tell, and if you're into fantasy, I definitely recommend you check her out her Dragons Series. Pop on in and tell her I said hi!

A's to your Q's coming soon. You make me snicker, and that's a good thing. Also working on Demon 101. What's that you say? Yeah, I know you're just dying to peruse it.

Chapter Six has been edited for your rereading pleasure, Chapter Thirty-Four is in the works, and some big pimpin' happening when I get back from the auto shop. My car is a piece of junk y'all.

I've got a few thunks on what to do with this blog, but more on that later. I need coffee right now.

Hello my two devoted readers! I thought we'd try something kinda fun. I'm going to use this post as a place for you to ask not only me, but your favorite characters questions! Exciting, right?! Oh yeah, I can feel you all quivering in your computer chairs.

Reply here with ANY questions, no matter how serious, goofy or dirty (actually, go easy on the dirty questions, my mom may be reading this). Every last one of us will answer, just be sure to say who the questions are directed at.

As always, keep pimping this page, and thanks for R&R!

Love,
Kay

Thanks to some feedback from my beloved maliciouslyliz, I think I finally have a title for this book. I'm going through and editing everywhere to reflect it. Stay tuned...
I get to go scope out some honeys
If you're reading through, you'll see that the first few chapters, as well as the last ones, are a lot longer than the ones in between. Here's why.

This whole story is still a work in progress. As I'm writing, I'm going through the already written chapters and editing them all the time. That's why you'll still find a few typos and grammatical errors sprinkled in here and there. Another thing that I'm working on is going back and fleshing out the shorter chapters. I've set myself a word minimum of a thousand words per chapter. Some of the edited ones may go way over that minimum, some might just barely reach it. But keep an eye out as I'm constantly going back and changing things around.

Love,
Kay
